We’re committed to ensuring that doing business with us is as easy as possible. That’s why we’re simplifying some of our underwriting requirements.
As of March 3, 2025, we’ll no longer automatically require paramedical exams, blood profiles or urine tests* when you fill out a
life insurance application (participating, permanent, term and universal) for the client segments below:
Age | Current amounts | New amounts |
---|
18 to 50 | Up to $1,000,000 | Up to $2,000,000 |
51 to 60 | Up to $249,999 | Up to $499,999 |
We’re working hard to offer you even
more point-of-sale decision options!
The proposed insureds in these target segments may be eligible just by completing the insurability questionnaire, without the need for a medical exam or tests.
* Depending on the answers provided and the predictive analytics, some proposed insureds may need to submit additional evidence (like blood profile, paramedical exam, vital signs or urinalysis).
Term life insurance risk classes
To improve processing times for insurance applications, we updated the number of risk classes eligible for term products for the client segments and amounts indicated above. As of March 3, these risk classes will no longer qualify for preferred rates. Only the standard risk classes will be available:
- P3: Preferred rate (non-smoker)
- R2: Regular rate (smoker)
Transition rules
Insurance applications submitted before March 3 and already being reviewed
They will be processed according to the current rules.
If Underwriting approved a preferred rate and you need an adjusted illustration under the old rules, write to
special.quotes@dsf.ca and specify the rate that was granted.
Insurance applications received on or after March 3
These applications, including any that were started but not submitted before March 3, will be processed according to the new rules. They won’t be eligible for preferred classes. You’ll need to reimport an updated illustration and delete the old one.
Choose the insurability questionnaire
Give your clients peace of mind
Choosing the insurability questionnaire means your client may be eligible for a point-of-sale decision and immediate insurance coverage.
Even if their insurance application isn’t approved on the spot, the information collected in the questionnaire will allow for faster processing. The time saved could help you convince your client to opt for the insurance you’re offering instead of a competitor's.
