Extension of coverage after age 65

The policyowner may submit a written request at the 65th birthday of the insured person, in the 60 days before the policy expires, to extend the coverage for 5 years without health questions. This continuation of coverage ends at age 70 of the insured person.

During these 5 years, premiums may increase each year.

To be eligible, the insured person must:

  • Work full-time
  • Not be disabled
  • Provide financial evidence

Conditions and limitations

  • In the event of illness, accident, hospitalization or day surgery, the minimum waiting period is 30 days.
  • The maximum benefit period is 24 months.
  • The monthly amount is the lesser of $2,000 or 50% of the initial monthly amount.
  • No additional coverage can be extended after age 65.
  • Extra premiums and exclusions will also apply to the extended coverage.
  • The clauses of the new policy may be amended based on what is applicable at the time of the extension request.
