Extension of coverage after age 65
The policyowner may submit a written request at the 65th birthday of the insured person, in the 60 days before the policy expires, to extend the coverage for 5 years without health questions. This continuation of coverage ends at age 70 of the insured person.
During these 5 years, premiums may increase each year.
To be eligible, the insured person must:
- Work full-time
- Not be disabled
- Provide financial evidence
Conditions and limitations
- In the event of illness, accident, hospitalization or day surgery, the minimum waiting period is 30 days.
- The maximum benefit period is 24 months.
- The monthly amount is the lesser of $2,000 or 50% of the initial monthly amount.
- No additional coverage can be extended after age 65.
- Extra premiums and exclusions will also apply to the extended coverage.
- The clauses of the new policy may be amended based on what is applicable at the time of the extension request.
